Christian Rap Artist: MC Psalmist

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MESSAGE

Sometimes situation and circumstances have an away of directing ones path in life. Family pressure, pier pressure and society can push a person down a road they don't want to travel and years later they look back on their life with regret. For Gospel RAP artist MC Pslamist, there’s no regret for the path that he is on. During a Christine youth camp function he realized that gospel RAP music could be used as a creative form to spread the Christian message.

MC Pslamist is a husband, a father of two and a Christian rapper with a devotion for the gospel and evangelizing. As I talked with him about his music one thing became very clear during our conversation and that was his love for God and his passion to share his Christine faith. For this Gospel RAP artist and graduate student that’s going after his Master’s in Nonprofit Management, it doesn't matter if he’s paid or not for his music. For MC Pslamist its all about doing what God has called him to do.

MC Pslamist offers a gritty and powerful perception on the Gospel presented in RAP music today. Boldly clamming ROMANS 12:1-2 as his foundation, in his own words “ worship dose involve scarifies...worship hurts...but it’s what we are called to do and it helps to keep me grounded.” As he shares his faith through his music to reach all that hears it. I wondered who did he want to reach most with his music, in his on words “Who ever God has me reach is whom I’m going to reach” for this Gospel RAP artist, is all about the message and those in agreement with his message will be drawn to his music like bees to a honey.

What’s next for MC Pslamist? As he prepares himself and his family to move from Philadelphia to Ohio, his single “First Love” from his album Streetcurb Storytales & Nightlife Nightmares will begin shooting a music video within-the next month. The single “First Love” has very powerful lyrics, that I for one cannot wait to see illustrated through a music video. Meanwhile, MC Pslamist will continue doing what he has been doing since he was 14 years old and at the age of 29 that’s getting the message out and creating music that he loves.

BIO -

MC Psalmist aka Mr. Church Gritty has been a staple in the gospel rap industry for over 13 years. Having released 7 albums, 13 mixtapes, co-finding the United Coalition of Urban Ministers, produced over 500 beats for others, pushed 25,000+ units out of his trunk with no formal distribution and seeing the lives of thousands of people transformed through the Gospel message has only made him more passionate about the work that needs to be done in the mission field of Hip Hop culture.

MC Psalmist is dedicated to seeing a Romans 12:1-2 relationship with God restored amongst His people (both in the church building and outside) by any means necessary. To combat the negativity so predominantly infused with the radio airways and the "too holy" versions of Christian rap that currently exist, MC Psalmist has adopted the alter-ego of Mr. Church Gritty: a straight shooting, slang talking, no nonsense Christian that speaks on everything he sees.

MC Psalmist has been privileged to have opened for acts such as the Clark Sisters, Da Truth, Crossmovement, Slipknot, Philmont, R-Swift, Jehovah's Chosen, and others. He was invited personally to Joel Olsteen's opening service in the former Houston Rocket's stadium and multiple Christian music festivals, both as a performer and a host.

Female Rapper: Quintescence

Keeping The Movement Going

Some of the Rap songs made by male rappers today portray women as sexual objects. These songs may provide the male Rap artist with fame and dollars but they do nothing to uplift their fellow female rappers. As a female RAP artist, Quintescence has had her share of pressure to show that she has what it takes to go toe to toe with male Rap artists. As she continues to polish her skills and talent, given the time she’s bound to outshine them.

Rap music can be dated back to the 1970’s with one of the first rappers DJ Kool Herc. Over the years Rap music has changed and today there are so many different styles of Rap music to choose from. Quintescence has an unpredictable and unique style that comes at you like a bolt of lighting. Her Music style will energize the moment, the party and the audience. Quintescence Rap style is fresh and aggressive which makes it so powerful.

Everyone has that person in their life that is their biggest influence, that one special person that gives them the motivation to do what they do, for Quintescence that’s her grandmother. Quintescence has been influenced by her grandmother’s strength and that has helped to build her character. When speaking with Quintescence you can feel how important family is to her.
A creative mind can be like a flower garden if you give it what it needs it will bloom award-winning flowers. Creating a Rap song sometimes needs inspiration to bloom into a hard-hitting, booty shaking Rap song masterpiece. For Quintescence her inspiration comes from her life experiences, which gives her songs that unique flavor.

Someone told me that no matter what career path one takes there would always be the BS side of business, aka the business politics. If you’re not watchful it will wash over you like a tidal wave and drown you and your dreams. For Quintescence the politics of the business side has been one of her most challenges with her music career, however with her love and passion for music, this has kept her afloat.

There are those that sit on the sidelines and watch life pass them by as their dreams fade to black. However, this is not the case for Quintescence. She was a two-time Winner at The Apollo Theatre and awarded Best Female Rapper in 2003 by Under Ground Music as well as featured on over 100 blog sites. Next for the Diva of Rap, is to continue to grow and have the patience to do it BIG! This year Quintescence is up for Best Female Rap Artist and Song of the year by the Under Ground Music Awards. Coming our way soon is the release of her new music video for her hot single “New York Shit.”

To do your best and give your best one needs to recharge. When she’s not performing or composing, Quintescence recharges her batteries with good conversations, long walks through Central Park, chillin by pool and catching her favorite show Sex and the City. Born and raised in the Bronx of New York, this dynamic Rap artist dream of performing at Madison Square Gardens. With her determination I have no doubt that dream will become a reality.
